Hello,
This is coming from Kim Boyack. I have taken over the Range Safety Officer (RSO) scheduling from Michelle Bollar. I want to thank all of you that have been volunteering either on a regular basis or filling in as needed. We currently have a need for an RSO for Monday and Tuesday afternoons/evenings. On Mondays, we need someone to cover the range from 4pm until 7pm. Red Dot League usually starts coming in at about 6:30 or before so you can leave as long as there is someone there to keep the doors unlocked. The last day for Red Dot League will be May 2nd. On Tuesdays, we need someone to cover the range from 4pm until 7pm. And, again, you can leave after Red Dot League starts coming in. This commitment is through May 30th. Our summer hours run June 1st through September 30th. During the summer (in addition to mornings Monday through Thursday and the 2nd and 4th Saturdays) we are open to the public in the afternoons/evenings from 4pm - 7pm on just Mondays. If you are available tomorrow (Tuesday, April 4th) please let me know as soon as possible. If you can volunteer regularly on Mondays or Tuesdays, please let me know. The best way to reach me is by texting me at 208-869-2271. Or, if you would rather you can call me at that number or reply to this email. You can also email me at 208-869-2271. If you are regularly scheduled for another day,and are unable to do so please let me know as soon as possible so that I can reach out to the other volunteers for a substitute. Again, thank you for stepping up. It is really appreciated. Sincerely, Kim Boyack

The Nampa Parks and Rec is searching for an archery instructor for their summer youth archery classes. There are 4 - 2 week sessions, 2 classes per evening held Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The dates can be set by the instructor. The classes are held at the Nampa Indoor Archery Range and the city provides the equipment. This is a paid position ($14/hour). Russ Scharman, Robert Zechmann and Michelle Bollar have taught these classes in the past. Michelle has a lesson plan that she is willing to share and I know that Russ and Robert would provide any guidance that they can.

Red Dot League was started a long time ago by Bow Chief members who were looking for a way to get tuned up for upcoming 3-D shoots, the Western Trail Classic (the Redding Shoot) in particular.
For this league you will need at least 4 arrows and (if available) a bow stand. As a group, we shoot at different dot sizes from different yardages. Each shooter has a cardboard target that has 1 three inch dot, 2 two inch dots and 4 one inch dots. Score sheets are provided with 4 shooters and a list of each target distance and the dot sizes. Distances range from 2 yards to 28 yards. This gives you a chance to verify and practice using your slider or pins at these various close yardages. For the first set, we shoot two arrows at a large dot from 26 yards and then we all move to 17 yards and shoot two arrows at the medium dots. The next set will start at 14 yards so we walk up, leave our bows at the 14 yard line and go up, score our arrows and pull them. The second set we shoot two arrows at 14 yards and then two arrows at 7 yards and continue from there. New for this year: We will be scoring the cardboard as 8 points, the dot at 10 points and the center of the dot as 11 points. This scoring system is like the scoring done in Redding. We shoot 2 arrows at 26 distances with a possible 572/26 11s. The first night that you shoot you will be establishing your first handicap. After you establish your handicap, you will draw a chip that will pair you up with another shooter. The highest scoring pair will receive free passes for Red Dot League. We will also have a random 11 drawing for those that want to participate. It will cost $1 to enter and if the number of 11s that you shoot is drawn you will win the pot. If more than one person shoots that same amount of 11s drawn the pot will be split. If no one wins then the pot rolls over to the next night. Red Dot League will start on Monday, February 20th at 7pm and will continue every Monday and Tuesday until May 2nd. The cost will be $4 for members and $5 for nonmembers. The first night, Monday, February 20th will be free (except for the random 11 drawing which is $1 and completely optional). If you have any questions, please contact me by text or call 208-869-2271. Hope to see you there, Kim Boyack The Membership Banquet is rapidly approaching so if you haven’t signed up yet, please do so by the 25th of January. The club will provide pulled pork and brisket, soda, water, coffee and table service.
Members are asked to bring a side dish, bread or dessert. Here is a link to sign up online; https://nampabowchiefs.wufoo.com/forms/mnizy3n0iwxa0v/ I believe there is also a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board at the range. We will be playing some games and door prizes will be awarded. Please bring your archery equipment and we will also be using the Genesis bows. Kids bows will be available for the kids who do not have their own. If you are unable to RSVP online, please contact Kim Boyack at 208-869-2271 of Michelle Bollar at 208-869-1878 and we will do it for you over the phone. Preview of coming attractions; The Sportsman’s show is coming up the first week of March from the 2nd through the 5th. We will be needing volunteers to work the Bow Chiefs booth at the show. Bill Bivens NBC Secretary Nathan Foster is organizing an order for personalized shooting jerseys for our members. See the attached photo for the color and design. The cost is $60 a jersey which includes shipping and handling. If you would like to order one, email Nathan at [email protected] or text him at 208-571-1513.
